EngageMedia shared at Media Burn's "Virtual Talks with Video Activists" its experience in using video, open technology, and impact production to support regional movements and raise awareness on social and environmental issues in the Asia-Pacific.
At this year’s DaangDokyu: A Festival of Philippine Documentaries, EngageMedia co-presents two documentary masterclasses and a roundtable discussion on the state of Philippine media. The festival proper is divided into six main sections, in which select Filipino films are grouped and screened according to the following weekly themes: Martial Law, Ecology, Nation, Taboo, Localities, and Futures.
Almost two months into the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon province, uncertainty and fear loom over the streets of Manila as dissatisfaction with the Philippine government’s COVID-19 pandemic response grows. Despite this, video journalists like JL Burgos continue to take risks and pursue stories from marginalised communities to create films that call for a better society after the pandemic.

The video workshop was a follow-up to a half-day mobile videography session that EngageMedia led last April 2019 in Chiangmai during IVAN’s regional gathering. Owing to the success of this session, EngageMedia and AIPP collaborated to design a more comprehensive video advocacy workshop. The topics included Storytelling for Advocacy, Design Principles, as well as Video and Editing Fundamentals.
We look at this effort as a fulfillment of our mission to demystify technology, especially those relevant to changemakers working on the ground. However technical (or geeky) it may appear, video compression’s importance is growing, given the demand for video both offline and online.
