Reverend Benny Giay of the Kingmi Papuan Christian Church presented the following diplomat briefing which reads like an essay on human rights abuses in West Papua. “I am dedicating this reflection to pastors and the ministers of the Lord, in Papuan Church History who were shot dead by Indonesian Security Officers in the past out allegation that they were agents of Papua Liberation Organization.”

West Papua Update: Mako Tabuni’s Funeral

Activist Mako Tabuni was buried after police shot and killed him. The funeral was attended by thousands of people, amongst them women and children. They gathered around his body, sang the West Papuan National Anthem and raised the Morning Star Flag.

Rare Earth Exports Need Stronger Regulation

The Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) will be lodging a referral on behalf of the Anti-Nuclear Alliance of W.A (ANAWA) to the EPA regarding the Lynas operations at Mt Weld and their mining of rare earths. Lynas has made a number of changes to their procedures, which have not gone through the appropriate approvals. Lynas are currently operating under approvals issued to them 14 years ago.
