Southeast Asia Content and Training Coordinator
We are looking for a full time Southeast Asia based Content and Training Coordinator to join the EngageMedia team. Key duties include organising a series of digital video distribution trainings as well as gathering content for the EngageMedia.org site. Applications close Monday September 8.
Summary
EngageMedia
is a burgeoning online video, networking, training and technology
project focussed on social justice and environmental issues in the
Asia-Pacific region.
We run the online video sharing site EngageMedia.org, produce a free and open source video sharing platform Plumi, initiated an international network of social justice online video projects called Transmission (including organising events in Rome and West Java, Indonesia) and conduct regular trainings in free software and digital video distribution. In 2009 we will produce a regional video festival in conjunction with Friends of the Earth and conduct a range of trainings and events throughout Australia and Southeast Asia.
Our core aims are:

To assist individuals and groups producing thought-provoking and informative media focused on social and environmental issues distribute their work.

To develop the digital media and Internet skills of independent video makers and marginalised communities.

To foster a regional network of producers, to assist each other in producing and distributing their work in the South East Asia and Pacific region.

To produce an online video delivery platform under a free software license that others are free to use and modify for their own media projects.
The Position
We are in a new period of growth and will be doubling the number of
staff from 4 to 8 over the coming 6 months. We are looking for a
Southeast Asia based Content and Training Coordinator to join our tight
knit team. You will work primarily with Asia-Pacific Program Manager and two other Southeast Asia based staff in Indonesia. The
position starts as soon as possible and can be performed from anywhere
in Southeast Asia except Indonesia. (There are two separate Indonesia
based positions).
Roles and Responsibilities

Content gathering and editing; videos, news, events etc. for the EngageMedia.org website

Content production; videos, news, events etc. for the EngageMedia.org website
-
Supporting EngageMedia.org website users and facilitating the online community
-
Producing the regular email newsletter
-
Organising trainings and events both in local country and in other Southeast Asian countries
-
Promotion, including events and screenings
-
Outreach and networking with relevant video and campaigning organisations, including the creating of six “skills-building partnerships”

Translate and also coordinate the translation of training materials and website
-
Coordinating and authoring DVD compilations of online content
-
Assist with reporting on projects
-
Assist the Program Manager and Finance and Administration Officer in managing project budgets

Contribute to the overall strategy and management of EngageMedia
Skills and Attributes

Proficiency in English and at least 1 major Asian language
-
Highly adept at using the web for content distribution and coordination

Ability to coordinate local and international events up to a medium scale

Additional Desirable Skills

Knowledge and Experience

Minumum 3 years of engagement with social-justice and/or environmental campaigning

Miniumum 3 years experience working in activist media

Knowledge of film and video culture

Knowledge of a range of multimedia software, free/open source software knowledge an advantage

Production of videos dealing with social or environmental themes
- Experience as a trainer for video-production, software skills or related areas
Work, Location and Travel

The position is full time, 5 days a week
-
The position requires a high degree of flexibility, given the trainings some long hours and travel is required, primarily within Southeast Asia, but also occasionally to Australia

Full-time wage competitive with local NGO staff wages

The position is for at least 2 years, including a 6 month provisional period
-
This is a remote position, you will work from your home country in Southeast Asia, ie you should be from Southeast Asia.

EngageMedia will provide a laptop for the period if of work if required and a subsidy for Internet and work space.
